The Project
The Mission
SWIM is an 18-month research and innovation project co-funded by the European Union Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA) under the Horizon Europe initiative.
The Vision
To provide reliable, real-time data and insights for sustainable surface water management. For a future where technology ensures equitable and sustainable access to clean water worldwide.
The Objective
Our overarching goal is to develop a validated, Technology Readiness Level 4 (TRL 4) prototype that tackles the global water crisis and directly supports the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 6 and the EU Water Framework Directive.
Open Science
Committed to democratizing hydrological data. Following FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable), we share our research & data with the global water management community.
The Technology
How the technology works, and the Anatomy of a Smarter Water Network.
-
We ingest optical, thermal, and radar imagery via the high-performance OPIE backend to map surface water and extract ecological indicators globally.
-
Patented floating platforms collect real-time chlorophyll-a, turbidity, and pH measurements, using EGNSS (Galileo) for exact positioning.
-
A conversational chatbot allows users to ask natural language questions (e.g., "Are there anomalies in Chlorophyll-a?") and receive instant statistical analyses and mitigation strategies.
The Consortium
The SWIM project brings together a consortium of international experts from various countries across the globe.
-
CoordinatorOffshore Monitoring develops technologies that support situational awareness, autonomous navigation, and operational decision-making in maritime environments. The company integrates maritime sensing systems, satellite observations, and advanced analytics while coordinating international research and innovation projects.

Continuous monitoring of water bodies is essential for sustainable water resource management. Our WAMO boats enable precise and automated real-time monitoring of key water quality parameters. At the same time, our digital SWIM platform consolidates the collected data, helping environmental and health authorities with remote diagnostics.Location: Germany
